Bali - Pura Tanah Lot
Discovering Sacred Waters and Experiencing the Kecak Fire Dance
After two weeks of exploring Indonesia we have made it to Bali. Here we stayed for four nights, definitely not long enough.
Our first stop in Bali was the Pura Tanah Lot. Quite an interesting place as it is only accessible during low tide. Well-prepared as we were we obviously arrived too early for that.

After checking the tidal schedule we decided to stay for some time and explore the surrounding area. Besides beautiful souvenirs we also found plenty of small restaurants chained next to one another. In the last one we decided to stay and have our lunch, a good way to wait for the low tide. While enjoying the view and the stunning weather the wait didn’t feel long.
We paid our bill, went down and still had to walk a bit through shallow water to make it to the Pura. Sadly we weren’t allowed to go actually up, but below the Pura, hidden beneath the waves, we still found a fountain where local monks gave out blessings. Here we stayed and enjoyed just the refreshing water on our feet.
After staying for a while we decided to head back to the car to drive to our next location for the day, the Uluwatu Temple. Heading to the car we were greeted though by a funny, but obvious warning - Caution Wet Floor.
The traffic to Uluwatu was of course terrible such that we almost missed the Sunset Kecak and Fire Dance. Sitting in an overcrowded amphitheatre, we were actually quite amazed and amused by the show - definitely a recommended experience.
While the show unfolded we saw in the background a stunning sunset, which was a beautiful end to this day.
